Bratislava, January 7 (TASR) - Independent MP Pavol Minarik said Thursday he had submitted a bill to remove the phrase "casino as part of the recreation complex" from the Games of Chance Act effective as of January 1, as it gives undue benefits for the project favoured by the Finance Ministry that had initiated inclusion of the phrase.
The billion-plus euro project featuring a leisure centre and a casino, to be sited in one of Bratislava suburbs, was unveiled last year with strong support from Finance Minister Jan Pociatek saying it would create thousands of new jobs and ensure millions of euros to state coffers.
Minarik told reporters he expected his measure to be voted on by Parliament next month.
Under the most recent changes to the above law, operators of casino earning more than €40 million per annum, among other things, are subject to a tax of 8 percent rather than the current rate of 27 percent.
