Bratislava, January 6 (TASR) – SkyToll, the operator of Slovakia's road-toll system, rejects claims suggesting that the system has repeatedly broken down on Wednesday, company spokesperson Lenka Lendacka told TASR later in the day.
She added that an update to the system lasted only 10 minutes. "Registration wasn't limited, it went on in a smooth manner," she said.
However, spokesman for northern Moravia's (Czech Republic) police Stanislav Sobol told TASR that the system had failed several times. "Unfortunately, a problem has occurred again. The system in Slovakia has broken down again," he said, adding that the problems arose at Svrcinovce (Zilina region) border crossing.
The situation at border crossings eased considerably following the traffic jams caused by the introduction of the system on January 1. Kilometre-long rows of lorries, which were seen on crossings on Monday and Tuesday, disappeared or at least dwindled substantially. This is due to the fact that there is a bank holiday in Slovakia on Wednesday for Epiphany and drivers were largely unaware of being allowed to drive their lorries on Slovak roads on Wednesday, as it wasn't until Tuesday that authorities gave the truckers the go-ahead.
