Carriers: Road Toll Customer Spot Didn't Have A Single OBU

Lucenec, January 3 (TASR) - The introduction of the road-toll system has caused problems for several carriers from around Lucenec (Banska Bystrica region). "They haven't received the onboard units, even though they had been told that the OBUs will be delivered by the end of 2009," TASR was told by Jaroslav Polacek of the Union of Slovakia's Carriers (UNAS) on Sunday.

"For example, here is a truck driver who can't leave for Russia tomorrow, because he has to go through a charged road," said Polacek.

Polacek emphasised that because the carriers haven't received the OBUs, they are suffering significant financial losses, around €332 per one vehicle. Certain transporters wanted to buy the OBU at a contact spot, a certain petrol station in Lucenec; "unfortunately, this customer spot didn't have a single OBU," added Polacek.

"The system is functioning. There are the OBUs. The carriers aren't prevented from registering," road-toll system provider SkyToll spokesperson Lenka Lendacka told TASR on Saturday.
