Bratislava, December 31 (TASR) - President Ivan Gasparovic will not pardon anyone to mark the incoming year 2010, his spokesperson said on New Year's Eve.
During his first term in office the head of state exercised his constitutional powers to pardon 12 people out of a total of 2,265 applicants, reads the president's online website.
After his first inauguration in 2004, Gasparovic granted amnesties to convicts who had committed crimes of negligence and were sentenced to jail and financial penalties of less than €996.
Among them was a youth who was convicted of murdering his father (a family tyrant) whose application was backed by a petition from his native village, and two soldiers who failed to report for mandatory military service and were found guilty of desertion.
