No Request Of Transport Companies Accepted By Transport Ministry

Bratislava, December 30 (TASR) - The meeting between Transportation, Post and Telecommunication minister Lubomir Vazny (a Smer-SD nominee) and the representatives of small and medium-sized transport companies yielded no results, as the ministry didn't accept any of their 11 requests.

"We have laws in effect, it's not in my power to postpone the launch of the electronic toll system. And then, even putting off the new system wouldn't bring any resolutions in my opinion," commented Vazny on the effort of the carriers to have introduction of the new road-toll system postponed to July 2010.

Upon the meeting, the transport companies have set up the Union of Slovakia's Carriers. "At once, we're launching an information campaign for people and drivers, focused on explaining the consequences of the new system's introduction," said Fura company director and spokesman for carriers Jaroslav Polacek.

Due to the unsuccessful result of the talks, more than 550 small and medium-sized transport companies intend to block the petrol stations in protest on January 4, 2010. However, they say that the ordinary drivers won't be restricted in any way. "We'll call this protest action 'Kvapka ku kvapke' (Drop to Drop) and plan to persist in it until things come to some kind of resolution," said Polacek.

Representatives from more than 60 transport companies gathered in front of the Transport Ministry building on Wednesday, holding banners reading "We want to cancel the toll system" and the like. In this way the companies conveyed their discontent with the new electronic toll system, set to be launched as of January 1, 2010.

When asked by journalists why they hadn't acted sooner than two days before the deadline, the representatives of carriers replied that they didn't have enough information at their disposal.
