New Banska Bystrica Region Chairman Swears Oath

Banska Bystrica, December 29 (TASR) - The new Banska Bystrica Higher Territorial Unit (VUC) chairman Vladimir Manka (Smer-SD party) swore an oath on Tuesday along with the VUC deputies during the first meeting of the VUC assembly, it was announced on Tuesday.

The first assembly meeting was formal, while from now on the VUC must start working as it should have done in the previous term, said Manka, referring to the issue of road management companies that threatened the property of the VUC.

Manka said that an in-depth analysis will be carried out to find out what the VUC has in store. "I know that the budget isn't sufficient," he said, adding that resources will have to be found to get through 2010 in a normal way. As an example, he said that if winter maintenance is carried out appropriately, money will be lacking for such maintenance in December 2010.

The former Banska Bystrica VUC chairman Milan Murgas refused to evaluate his term for the media, stating that he is a private individual now.

In the November VUC elections, the coalition Smer-SD and LS-HZDS parties won by a large margin in Banska Bystrica and took 27 seats. SMK came second with seven deputies, while a coalition of SDKU-DS and KDH was third with six. Five Independents also made it into the regional parliament, while an SNS-HZD coalition gained three seats and Most-Hid and the Green Party coalition have one representative in this VUC.
