Slovaks Found Downbeat on Their Future in 2010

Bratislava, December 29 (TASR) - The latest poll out on Tuesday shows that Slovaks are rather sceptical about their future next year, with 48 percent of respondents being sceptical about their prospects for success in 2010, 32 percent describing themselves as optimistic while 19 percent are pessimistic.

The survey was conducted by KMG International agency on a sample of 1,006 people from December 5-12.

Banska Bystrica and Presov regions turned out to be the most pessimism-hit regions for the highest unemployment and lowest pace of development.

The most optimistic regions were found to be Zilina (43 percent) and Trnava (41 percent). "This may be the result of heavy investing in these regions which has secured a high employment. Surprising is the fact that Bratislava only has a slightly above average level of optimism (35 percent) while maintaining a higher degree of scepticism (50 percent)," said KMG agency chief Peter Korenek.

Unlike previous years, university-educated people were found to be rather sceptical (58 percent) vis-a-vis their upbeat counterparts (27 percent).
