Vazny: Construction of D4 Bratislava Bypass Will be Priority in 2010

Bratislava, December 28 (TASR) - The construction of the so-called D4 bypass around Bratislava is one of my ministry's main priorities for next year, Transport, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Lubomir Vazny has told TASR.

"Traffic intensity in Bratislava is growing continuously, which can't leave me satisfied in any way," said Vazny.

The whole project has been at a standstill for several months due to the lack of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) from the Environment Ministry. According to Vazny, the assessment may be ready in the first half of 2010 and should be followed by a tender lasting around 18 months. The last phase before construction - completing the projects and gaining building permission - shouldn't take longer than until mid-2013 and should then be followed by the construction work itself, which is expected to take around four years, meaning that the bypass could be opened in 2017.
