Bratislava, December 28 (TASR) - The bilateral dispute between Russia and Ukraine threatens supplies of oil to Slovakia and other EU countries, but Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico noted that the problems are being discussed.
Fico said on Monday that there is information that three out of the four disputed issues have already been resolved and that the fourth one is being negotiated. A top level meeting between Russia and Ukraine is allegedly being planned as well.
According to Fico, the situation is similar to the gas crisis at the beginning of 2009, but that was worse because no alternative supplies were available then.
Fico said that the Slovak Security Council meeting on Monday also discussed the security of gas supplies, but claimed that there is no threat that these could be suspended as of January.
The prime minister said that gas supplies are being closely monitored, along with the tense economic and financial situation in Ukraine and its relations with Russia. Crisis models for February and March, when the threat of a crisis could grow, are being prepared as well, said Fico.
