Bratislava, December 28 (TASR) - Russian Energy Minister Sergei Ivanovich Shmatko assured Slovak Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek on the phone on Monday that Russia has reached agreement with Ukraine on oil deliveries to the European Union countries next year, banishing an increased risk of a halt in the crude oil supplies for Slovakia, Economy Ministry spokesman Branislav Zvara told TASR on the same day.
Russia and Ukraine have signed a deal which guarantees that there will be no disruption in oil deliveries to the European Union member states in 2010.
Minister Jahnatek welcomed the news even if Slovakia was ready for the worst-case scenario, having learnt from the natural gas crisis experienced by its population and economy in January 2009.
Zvara said that the ministry will continue to monitor the developments.
