Public Health Office: 31 New Novel Flu Cases in Slovakia Last Week

Bratislava, December 28 (TASR) - A total of 31 pandemic flu A(H1N1) cases were confirmed over the course of last week, increasing the overall number of cases to 986, said Public Health Office (UVZ) representatives on Monday.

The majority of cases have been registered in Bratislava region (431) and Nitra region (148).

Doctors have continued to give the Panenza vaccine to medical personnel at hospitals and health centres.

Last week, UVZ registered 13 severe cases of the respiratory illnesses accompanied with pneumonia that required hospital treatment. A total of 272 of such cases were confirmed between November 3-December 24. "105 cases have been virologically screened so far, with the pandemic virus A(H1N1) confirmed in 84 of them," said Epidemiology Department representatives, who added that there have been 32 fatalities in Slovakia in which the A(H1N1) virus had a contributory effect to the cause of death.
