According to data published by the Slovak central bank (NBS) on Thursday, prices of flats in Slovakia fell by 14 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2009, which has been the most significant decline in real estates prices on the Slovak market, reports Pravda daily on page 6 on Friday.
The east of Slovakia saw the most rapid price drop - even by 20 percent y-o-y. People can now buy a three-room flat in Kosice region for €62,000.
According to analysts, this is not the end of the falling real-estates prices. It should continue and prices should go down by other about 5 percent, in case of old flats in a less attractive locality even by 10 percent. The drop should stop at the beginning of 2010.
Some drivers, who just exchanged their summer tyres for winter ones, will have to change them again, reads the daily on pages 1 and 2.
According to a Transport Ministry's regulation, coming into effect on November 20, the minimum allowed depth of the tyre tread pattern was increased from 1.6 millimetres to 3 millimetres.
"The new regulation is adapting to the trends, but it could have been introduced earlier, definitely before the start of the winter season (October 1)," said transport expert Jozef Drahovsky.
Until now the minimum depth of the tyre pattern was equal for summer and winter tyres - 1.6 millimetres. The drivers, who already exchanged their summer tyres for winter ones could be forced to change them again, or face a fine.
