Survey: Slovaks Intended to Spend €166 On Christmas Gifts

Bratislava, December 25 (TASR) - In a survey carried out by the TNS SK agency before Christmas, Slovaks said they planned to buy Christmas gifts for their relatives and loved ones amounting to €166.20 on average.

The survey results indicated that Slovaks planned to spend roughly the same sum of money as in Christmas 2008.

According to the survey, people with university education intended to spend most – €240.65 on average.

Slovak households planned to spend approximately €138.58 on food, €20.59 on non-alcoholic beverages and €22.06 on alcohol - roughly the same amount of money as last year.

The survey attempted to ascertain whether the global economic crisis will have any impact on the pre-Christmas shopping of Slovaks. Nearly half of the people (47.2 percent of the population) said before the holidays that it will feel the impact of the crisis on their pre-Christmas shopping. However, the same number of respondents (47.5 percent) said that the crisis will have no effect and 5.4 percent weren't able to decide.
