Bratislava Airport Open to Negotiating Lowering of Fees

Bratislava, November 19 (TASR) - M.R. Stefanik Airport (BTS) in Bratislava does not principally oppose the prospect of lowering the airport fees, BTS Business and Marketing Director Radek Zabransky said at a press conference on Thursday.

"We need to have guarantees in any negotiation that the investment, namely lowering of the airport fees, will be profitable," Zabransky said.

He added that return on the investment in question means increase in number of flights and passengers. "If that becomes the case, then we can talk about lowering some of the fees," remarked Zabransky.

His statement was a response to the request of Irish low-cost company Ryanair, which asked the Bratislava Airport to decrease the fees. Ryanair plans to open 20 new airport links in Bratislava since next year. "There are continual negotiations," said Zabransky, adding that the Bratislava airport is ascertaining what the exact requirements of Ryanair are.

If Ryanair makes a deal with BTS, three aircrafts will be assigned to Bratislava and 1,600 new jobs created. Hence, the Bratislava Airport yearly number of passengers should double to two million people.

Currently, Ryanair operates 17 flights in Bratislava and has transported 556,580 passengers in first nine months of 2009.
