Lajcak: Slovakia Ready To Increase Engagement in Afghanistan

Bratislava/Washington, November 19 (TASR) - Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg on Thursday, informing him about Slovakia's plan to increase the military deployment in Afghanistan, Foreign Affairs Ministry's spokesman Peter Stano told TASR on the same day.
During their meeting in Washington, Lajcak repeated Slovak Government's determination to increase the number of soldiers active in the ISAF mission. "We are prepared to gradually increase our military and financial engagement in Afghanistan," he stated.
Lajcak presented the same message also during his speech in Heritage Foundation Institute and in National Press Club.
According to Steinberg, the American Government considers this decision to be important, appreciates it a lot and sees it as the fulfilment of alliance between Slovakia and U.S.A..
