Agriculture University in Nitra Receives University Decree

Nitra, December 22 (TASR) - Education Minister Jan Mikolaj on Tuesday handed rector of the Slovak Agriculture University (SPU) in Nitra Mikulas Latecka a decree that places the university among higher education institutions of the university type, it was announced on the same day.

SPU thus successfully completed its accreditation process, after having being told in June that it had too many students for the number of lecturers (20.17 students per lecturer) to be given the status of university (which requires no more than 20 students per lecturer).

Katarina Potokova from SPU said that the university adopted correction measures and decreased the ratio to 18.23, and the accreditation committee then approved a proposal for Mikolaj to include the institution in the university category.

Latecka said that the university met the condition by accepting 1,350 students for study instead of the 1,780 originally planned.

SPU offers bachelor, M.A. and PhD. curricula at six faculties. Up to 91 of the university's study programmes were accredited.
