Private Rectors See Colleague's Resignation as Result of Discrimination

Bratislava, December 22 (TASR) - The Association of Rectors of Private Higher Education Institutions described the resignation of the rector of St. Elizabeth's Health and Social Work Higher Education Institute Vladimir Krcmery earlier on Tuesday as being the result of the Education Ministry's concerted discriminatory push against certain private institutions based on rigid and fabricated charts.
Krcmery stepped down as head of the above institution after the ministry relegated it to a higher-education institution - way below its previous university status. His tenure was due to expire in 2011.
"We feel that this case has been forced as it doesn't live up to the majority of government rulings on the setting up of private higher-education institutions, on the delivery, provision, and organisation of education for a regional knowledge-based economy in respective programmes derived from the market, design and technological equipment," reads the statement.
