Radicova: It's Not Easy to Reach Agreements and Difficult to Keep Them

Bratislava, January 6 (TASR) - Carrying out the Prime Minister's function has taught me to understand that agreements aren't reached easily and that keeping them is even more difficult sometimes, Prime Minister Iveta Radicova has said in an interview for TASR.

Radicova was speaking about situations when the four Coalition parties have agreed on something, but the result didn't correspond with it in the end.

Such situations were also criticised by Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar, who has said that it is useless to sit about at Coalition Council's sessions when the agreements aren't kept afterwards.

Radicova pointed to the original agreement of the Coalition members that they would hold a Coalition sessions every other week and even more often if needed. "Any time a member of the Coalition Council asks me that he has a need to discuss a problem, I summon it [a session], as it is always better to speak about an issue than let it ferment," said Radicova.

When looking back at the first six months of her government, she expressed her satisfaction with adoption of various anti-corruption laws and measures and also the measures aimed at helping young families, pensioners and the physically challenged.

Radicova highlighted important foreign visits, including a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. According to Radicova, there was an immediate mutual understanding between her and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. "It started to work well from the very beginning and the mutual support is very strong," she added.
