Slovak Television and Slovak Radio Seal Subsidy Deals With State

Bratislava, December 21 (TASR) – Representatives of state-run Slovak Television (STV) and Slovak Radio (SRo) signed framework agreements with the Culture Ministry on Monday, whereby the two media organisations will receive funds towards making programmes in the public interest, TASR learnt later in the day.

The deals were signed by Culture Minister Marek Madaric and the general directors of STV and SRo, Ivan Niznansky and Miloslava Zemkova, respectively.

In line with the agreements, which were signed for a period of five years, at least €10 million per year will flow into STV, while SRo will receive an €4 million annually.

In 2010, STV will receive €12.5 million, while the subsidy for SRo will amount to €4.5 million. The allocated funds will cover expenditures incurred by STV in the production of 385 programmes such as fairy tales, documentaries and films. SRo, in turn, will put the money towards making 8,305 programmes related to music, religion, education and documentary work. Support for broadcasting in six foreign languages via Radio Slovakia International is also included in the subsidy.

The state aid will not be used for producing news programmes or journalism of an analytical character.
