Galko Refuses to Sign Car Insurance Contract, Negotiates Cheaper Price

Bratislava, December 29 (TASR) – Slovak Defence Minister Lubomir Galko refused to sign an already-agreed-upon contract concerning the insurance of vehicles used by the ministry, TASR was told by ministry spokesman Ivan Rudolf on Wednesday.

Galko claimed that the initial sum for the insurance - €2.61 million – was too high and he insisted on a cheaper deal.

"The result is that we managed to reduce the payment, saving more than €130,000. I’m only doing what I said I will be doing when I became minister. I want to see that all the respectable people who pay their taxes can be sure that their money is being managed in a responsible manner," said Galko.

The ministry also plans to donate older vehicles that are no longer in use to municipalities.
