Bratislava, December 25 (TASR) - Customers of telecommunication operator Orange prefer sending short text messages and multimedia messages over making phone calls at Christmas, TASR learnt on Friday.
The total number of calls made on Christmas Eve was slightly lower than the daily average this year, Orange spokesman Richard Fides told TASR.
Customers of Orange sent almost 15 million short messages and more than 200,000 multimedia messages on Christmas Eve. Most messages were sent between 2-3 p.m - 1.6 million. Meanwhile, customers of Orange made 10 million calls on Christmas Eve, the busiest hour being 10-11 a.m. with more than 500,000 calls.
"Increasingly more Slovaks prefer sending Christmas wishes via e-mail or social networks, which caused an increase in data consumption [on Christmas Day]," said Fides, adding that Orange's mobile internet network recorded a 50-percent rise in consumption year-on-year.
