Employers Appreciative of Cabinet's Attitude to Social Dialogue

Bratislava, December 22 (TASR) - Although employers were concerned about the way in which the social dialogue would function following the general election in June, the Cabinet has taken up a responsible stance vis-a-vis tripartite issues, president of the Association of Employers' Unions (AZZZ) Tomas Malatinsky said on Wednesday.
"I have to admit that we did have some concerns. Prime Minister Iveta Radicova's attitude and her frequent attendance at sessions of the Economic and Social Council have shown that the fears were unfounded, however," he said when evaluating developments in the sphere in 2010.
Even rightist politicians have come to realise that social dialogue doesn't only entail trade union demands, said Malatinsky. "Employers are in the foreground, as they create new jobs and respond sensitively to every change in the business environment," he added.
In this connection, he reproached the Government for the structure of its package designed to consolidate public finances. Instead of all kinds of partial measures that will affect entrepreneurs in a negative manner, a VAT hike to 21 percent should have been adopted, rather than the okayed 20 percent. "Such a measure would yield more certain tax revenues for the Government and the burden in the entrepreneurial sector would be spread out in a more balanced manner," he argued.
Instead of this, small traders will have to grapple with extra paperwork, for instance, added Malatinsky.
