High Tatras: Winter Season Officially Kicked-off in Strbske Pleso

High Tatras, December 18 (TASR) – Even though skiers and snowboarders have been enjoying snow in the High Tatras for two weeks now, it's only on Saturday that this year's winter season was officially opened in Slovakia's biggest mountains.

The opening ceremony in the Strbske Pleso resort featured a traditional act of 'snowflake baptising', along with ski instructors taking a vow. Tourists and visitors present at the ceremony could also spot a new mascot of the Park Snow resort - a mouse called Lola.

Mayor of High Tatras village of Strba Michal Sykora believes that this year's winter season will be better than last year's. "Snow came later this year, but I'm positive that this winter will be more intense, and we won't lack enough snow, especially on skiing tracks," he said, adding that more services are available in the High Tatras this year, so tourists coming to the mountains should feel more comfortable here than in the past years.
