Matovic Likens Fico to Stalin and Hitler

Bratislava, December 16 (TASR) - Ordinary People/Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) MP Igor Matovic couldn't resist taking potshots at Smer-SD chairman Robert Fico during Thursday's extraordinary Parliamentary session, calling him a crook and likening his practices to those of Stalin or Hitler.

"In what way is he different than Stalin or Hitler? Weren't they using the same brainwashing methods? Weren't they abusing the blind trust of their sheep to twist facts? They used and abused just like this crook of ours," said Matovic, adding that he's not ashamed for his diatribe about the former Slovak premier.

"You're a jerk and a liar," Smer-SD MP Peter Suca said in reaction.

"You've disgraced the status of an MP today in a way the history of this Parliament has never seen before," Smer-SD MP Pavol Goga told Matovic.

Their party colleague Jan Podmanicky also joined in the disapproving chorus, telling Matovic: "A crook is someone who will commit a multi-million tax fraud by dismantling a printing machine ... move it across the border, then assemble it here and do business with it. Someone who will hire dozens of students for the distribution of their rag and won't pay the students their promised and well-earned reward. A crook is someone who exerts influence over the Tax Office to conceal their own tax fraud. A person who asks €20 million to stay in the governing Coalition. A crook is a smuggler, for example, a cheater and corruptionist. A person who suffers from ill manners and has a chip on their shoulder, someone who's small-minded and his vocabulary is filled with nothing but hatred and insults for political opponents. A crook is a person that you, Mr. Matovic, know very well. You may see him in the mirror every morning."

The verbal shoot-out, with insults flying, was disrupted by Parliamentary Vice-Chairman Bela Bugar (Most-Hid), who was presiding over the session at that moment. "Please, this is the last session before Christmas, let's act in a civil way, like people," he called on the MPs involved.
