Bratislava, December 14 (TASR) - The Ice-hockey World Championships in 2011 will be a unique opportunity for Slovak tourism, said head of the Slovak Tourism Agency (SACR) Peter Belinsky at a press conference on Tuesday.
"Our goal is to motivate the expected 330,000-plus foreign visitors to the event to experience the beauties of Slovakia and come back again," said Belinsky.
Belinsky pointed out that tourism in Slovakia still has unutilised potential. "Tourism in Slovakia has the potential to contribute significantly more to the creation of GDP than it does at the moment," he said. Tourism currently contributes 2.6 percent of the country's GDP.
SACR is a state-subsidised organisation specialised in marketing and the state promotion of tourism. It was set up by the Economy Ministry in 1995.
Powers in the sphere of tourism were transferred from the Culture and Tourism Ministry to the Transport, Construction and Regional Development Ministry in November 2010.
