Founder of Slovenska Pospolitost Becomes High-Ranking SNS Member

Bratislava, December 13 (TASR) - Slovak National Party (SNS) chairman Jan Slota appointed founder of Slovenská Pospolitosť (Slovak Togetherness) Ivan Ruzicka to the post of regional party head, the internet website topky.sk reported on Monday.

According to topky.sk, Ruzicka is a right-wing extremist and his appointment has filled many SNS members with indignation. Topky.sk reports that Ruzicka was elected the first-ever chairman of Slovenska Pospolitost in 1996 and a magazine called Radical Bloc, whose readers were mostly young men with shaved head and short haircuts, was issued during his tenure. The magazine published interviews with neo-Nazi bands, articles that denied the Holocaust ever happened and advertised products such as tabs with the inscription 'skinheads'.

Ruzicka didn't hide the fact that he'd been active with Slovenska Pospolitost. "They know about it in the party. No one had any problem with it, only you," he told topky.sk.

SNS doesn't consider Ruzicka's past to be a problem and is not concerned about any radicalisation of the party. "The issue is 13 years old and hence, anything but current. Furthermore, Slovenska Pospolitost was a very different organisation back then," said SNS spokesperson Jana Benkova.
