Ten Modern Double-deckers to Be Deployed on Slovak Railways

Bratislava, December 9 (TASR) - Railway company Zeleznicna Spolocnost Slovensko (ZSSK) on Thursday unveiled the first of the ten double-decker trains of the 671 (EPJ 671) series that will soon be deployed on Slovak railways.
The first train was named Catherine after St. Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of railmen.
The new trains will have their home station in Zilina, set to be dispatched to Trencin, Liptovsky Mikulas (Zilina region) and Cadca (Zilina region). Meanwhile, Catherine is set to be put into operation this month, with another train slated to follow in February. A total of five double-decker trains will be running by the end of 2011. They will also be deployed on routes Zilina-Poprad/Tatry-Kosice and Kosice-Cierna nad Tisou.
The modern double-decker trains were made in the Czech Republic, has a capacity of 307 seats and a maximum speed of 160 kmph. The new trains are the first trains in Slovakia customised for disabled and blind people.
