Volkswagen Plant Getting Ready for New Car Model Production

Bratislava, December 9 (TASR) - Prime Minister Iveta Radicova on Thursday visited Bratislava's Volkswagen Slovakia plant, a company with a staff of 6,800 belonging to the biggest employers in Slovakia.

The company's Board of Directors chairman Andreas Tostmann informed Radicova on the plant's plans, especially those related to the planned construction of Volkswagen's new car model, called New Small Family, the launch of which is set for 2011. With the new model leaving the plant's assembly lines next year, Volkswagen Slovakia's annual production should rise to 400,000 cars. The new model production will also translate into 1,500 new jobs in the plant, plus thousands of others in Volkswagen suppliers and sub-suppliers.

TASR was informed by Volkswagen Slovakia spokesman Vladimir Machalik.
