Figel, Mihal and Uhliarik Content with Budgets for Their Ministries

Bratislava, December 8 (TASR) - The ministers of transport (Jan Figel/KDH), health (Ivan Uhliarik/KDH) and labour (Jozef Mihal/SaS) are content with the respective budgets for their ministries that were approved as part of the state budget in Parliament on Wednesday.

"I'm happy that we've agreed on the overall budget," said Figel, even though his ministry has been deprived of more than €8 million for 2011 as punishment for the four KDH MPs (Anton Marcincin, Andrej Durkovsky, Marian Kvasnicka and Peter Muransky) that caused the failure of the bill on increasing the excise tax on beer. "I don't view [the cut in the budget for Transport Ministry] as a fundamental problem," said Figel.

"I view the budget for my ministry positively, as there have been no cuts in the social sphere," said Mihal, adding that the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and the Family has got even more money for parental benefits than in 2010. Plus, the expenses for parental leaves will also increase. "They will be financed mainly from patching the holes [in the law] that allowed the circumventing of the duty to pay deductions to [the state-run social insurer] Socialna poistovna for years," said Mihal.

The Health Ministry will receive 2.28 percent (€85 million) more money than in 2010. According to Uhliarik, his ministry would have received even more resources had it not been for the devastated economy the current Government inherited from the former government headed by Smer-SD chairman Robert Fico.
