Visa-Free Travel for Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro okayed by Slovakia

Bratislava, December 19 (TASR) - Slovakia, a member country of the Schengen zone, has confirmed its endorsement of visa-free travel for the citizens of Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro as of December 19 who will henceforth need to only show a biometric passport to be allowed into the country.

"Based on our own experience we know the importance of free travel for the acceleration of political and economic developments and strengthening co-operation with European Union. We are hopeful that governments of Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina will make every effort to meet remaining conditions to qualify for the visa-free travel and to soon join those countries in the region which can benefit from travel to Schengen countries without visa," said a spokesman for the foreign affairs ministry.

He added that Slovakia has long supported a visa free regime for the countries of western Balkans and its abolition for those countries which have complied with the stipulated criteria.
