Slovakia to Raise Number of Troops in Afghanistan and Bosnia

Bratislava, December 7 (TASR) - The mandate concerning the number of Slovak soldiers serving in the ISAF operation in Afghanistan is to be increased from the current 314 to 348, states a proposal drafted by the Defence and Foreign Affairs Ministries and approved by Parliament on Tuesday.
In real numbers, 299 Slovak soldiers are serving under the ISAF mission at present. Apart from their current activities, which mainly involve disarming unexploded bombs, they will also support and train the Afghan forces.
The number of Slovak officers at ISAF command will also grow - from six to twelve.
As of January, Slovakia will also strengthen its presence in the EU-ALTHEA operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 40 troops to 48.
