Mihal: British "Levy Bonus" Should Convince Slovaks of Its Worth

Brussels, December 6 (TASR) - Having Great Britain introduce a variation of the so-called levy bonus should silence critics in Slovakia who took potshots at the concept, arguing that no country has ever introduced such a measure within its social system yet, Labour, Social Affairs and Family Minister Jozef Mihal told TASR on Monday.

Mihal spoke to TASR after he took part in the EU Council on Employment and Social Affairs (EPSCCO), where Mihal met with Chris Greyling, who is responsible for the field of employment at the British Labour and Pensions Ministry.

The universal credit, set to be introduced in Great Britain as of 2013, is designed to unify and level forms of state assistance.

"We discussed the way to introduce this measure - called the deduction bonus in Slovakia and a so-called universal credit in UK - it's one and the same. This will simplify the system of social benefits. Much like us, Britain would like to introduce the system as of 2013," said Mihal.

The two countries will co-ordinate their moves in the future and share experiences, claimed Mihal. He thinks that the British "precedent" should convince nay-sayers in Slovakia of its worth – especially people who think it's pointless.
