Figel: Vote on Prosecutor General Could Be Joined with Confidence Vote in Govt

Bratislava, December 4 (TASR) - The Government could join the vote for the future Prosecutor General with the confidence vote in the Government, re-elected KDH chairman Jan Figel hinted during the KDH's congress session on Saturday.

According to Figel, the other option is to take the permanent risk that the Coalition won't be sure about having the majority of votes when making important decisions. "It can turn up in case of some other issue in several months that we have a few Judases, dealers or blackmailed people among the 79 Coalition MPs," stressed Figel.

He argues that joining the vote on the Prosecutor General with the confidence vote in Government would represent exactly the same risk as has been the case so far. "The Government didn't fall thanks to one vote," said Figel. [One vote was missing for re-electing Smer-SD's candidate Dobroslav Trnka the Prosecutor General - a case in which Prime Minister Iveta Radicova promised to resign. - ed. note]. Thus, when the Governments organises the vote on the new Prosecutor General hand in hand with the confidence vote, there is the same threat that the Government would fall, Figel thinks.

Contrary to Figel's opinion, KDH's former chairman Jan Carnogursky, who also took part in the congress session, doesn't agree with joining the two votes together.

In addition, KDH's vice-chair Daniel Lipsic doubts whether such a joining is allowed by the Constitution.
