Coalition MPs Express Conviction That Centes Will Be Elected Next Time

Bratislava, December 3 (TASR) - Some representatives of the governing Coalition expressed their belief on Friday that joint coalition candidate Jozef Centes will succeed in the third attempt to elect a new prosecutor-general that will take place on Tuesday.

"I'm slightly optimistic," said Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar.

SDKU-DS caucus leader Jozef Mikus believes that Centes will defeat incument Prosecutor-General Dobroslav Trnka, who was nominated by Smer-SD MP Mojmir Mamojka.

KDH caucus leader Pavol Hrusovsky doesn't expect that the rules of the vote will be changed. "We'll complete the second round with the same candidates and the same rules as was the case in the first round [in which Trnka and Centes went head-to-head - ed. note]," he said, adding that the voting will most probably remain secret, therefore. Some changes will have to be made afterwards, he conceded, however. "We're discussing various alternative measures," he added.

Most-Hid agrees to making the vote public if there is no other option. "But this will also be proof that we can't hold together," pointed out Bugar.

Mikus also backs the idea of making the vote public, along with Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) MP Martin Poliacik and his party.
