Employers From RUZ Agree With Government Austerity Package

Bratislava, November 30 (TASR) - The Republican Union of Employers (RUZ) supports the package of measures adopted by the Government aimed at balancing public finances, albeit with certain reservations, said RUZ representatives at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to RUZ president Marian Jusko, it wouldn't be beneficial if the proposal were weakened by various amending proposals submitted by MPs.

RUZ views the consolidation of public finances as the Government's priority. Growing debt and a deficit expected to reach 8 percent of GDP represents a considerable risk to economic and social development. Measures aimed at improving the situation have to focus on significant savings in public finances.

The employers also criticised the strike alert announced by the KOVO trade union in response to what it views as the "harsh" effects of the package on employees and to prepared changes to the Labour Code. RUZ argues that the threat of strikes is a very bad signal for potential investors and that the trade unions are meeting the agenda of the opposition parties in this way.
