Austrians Interested in Investing in Wind Energy in Slovakia

Bratislava, November 30 (TASR) - The issues of economic development and energy dominated a meeting between Slovak Economy Minister Juraj Miskov (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) and Austrian Ambassador to Slovakia Josef Markus Wuketich on Monday, the Economy Ministry told TASR on Tuesday.

Wuketich pointed to the interest among Austrian investors in developing wind energy in Slovakia. He also inquired into the future of renewable energy sources as a whole in the country.

Miskov stated that 9 percent of end energy consumption in Slovakia is supplied by renewable sources at the moment. At the same time, he expressed his conviction that Slovakia will meet its obligations to the European Union in this area and that as much as 14 percent of Slovakia's energy will come from renewable sources by 2020. He added that Slovakia wants mainly to promote biomass, biogas and hydroelectric power stations, but also intends to develop solar and wind energy in the future.

The Slovak minister said that the Slovak Government's priorities include a significant improvement in the country's business environment, a lower tax and deductions burden, a more flexible Labour Code, and improvements in law enforcement.

Wuketich invited Miskov to meet his Austrian counterpart - Austrian Minister of Economy, Family and Youth Reinhold Mitterlehner - in the first quarter of 2011.

Miskov and Wuketich also expressed their satisfaction with bilateral relations.
