More Than 221,600 People Against Changes in Third Pillar

Bratislava, November 29 (TASR) - More than 221,600 people signed a petition against the planned changes to the supplementary pension saving scheme (the so-called third pillar of the pension system) that was submitted to Parliament on Monday.

According to the currently-debated proposal to the Social Insurance Act, employees and employers would have to pay social levies from the contributions to the supplementary pension-fund management companies. The proposal has already been passed to its second reading in the House and it will be discussed on Tuesday.

The petition committee began collecting signatures on October 4, hoping to garner at least 100,000, thereby asking MPs not to approve the amendment.

The so-called third pillar has a 13-year-long history in Slovakia and more than 750,000 clients participate in it. The savers have collected more than €1.1 billion in total.
