Bratislava, November 28 (TASR) - Independent candidates recorded the most success in the local elections on Saturday, winning 979 mayoral posts in 2,926 local councils, Central Electoral Commission (UVK) chairman Karol Nagy announced on Sunday.
The most successful political party was the opposition Smer-SD, acquiring 599 mayoral posts, followed by the coalition Christian Democrats (KDH) with 161 mayors.
People failed to elect local councils in nine cases, meaning that the voting there will have to be repeated, said Nagy.
