Number of Slovak Troops in Afghanistan to Increase by 14

Bratislava, November 25 (TASR) - Another group of Slovak servicemen is set to leave for a tour of duty within the ISAF operation in Afghanistan, increasing the number of Slovak troops by 14, TASR learned from Slovak Armed Forces spokesman Milan Vanga on Thursday.

"On Friday, November 26, 205 soldiers will say goodbye to their families at Trebisov barracks (Kosice region) before leaving for Afghanistan. The professionals will begin serving within the ISAF mission as of December 9," said the spokesman, adding that Lieutenant-Colonel Petr Svrlo, the new commander of the Slovak contingent, will replace Lieutenant-Colonel Marian Mjartan.

A total of 299 servicemen are currently deployed on the ISAF mission, with 1,365 Slovak soldiers completing tours of duty in Afghanistan so far, including four women who formed part of a medical team. There aren't any women serving among the Slovak troops at the moment, however.
