Gurria: Slovakia Showing Will for Discipline, Good Signal to Markets

Bratislava, November 25 (TASR) - Slovakia is on the right path towards consolidating its public finances, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Secretary-General Angel Gurria told Slovak Premier Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) at a meeting in Bratislava on Thursday.

Gurria visited Slovakia into order to hand an OECD report on Slovakia's development to Radicova.

"Slovakia is carrying out the right measures. It's moving forward with fiscal consolidation, is displaying strong willpower to observe fiscal discipline and is carrying out reforms. These steps make Slovakia different, sending out a signal to the markets that the country is open for business, is doing business and is a good place for business," said Gurria.

According to Gurria, the latest analysis shows that Slovakia has made significant progress. "It should be noted that we're facing difficult times due to the large amount of turbulence present. I want to stress that you can rely on the OECD. We will work with you and for you so that we can continue Slovakia's success story together," he stated.

"We know the challenges cited in the OECD analysis - resolving unemployment, primarily its long-term form; reforming the public pension system; supporting the employment of young people, education and research," said Radicova.

The premier noted that the OECD praised Slovakia for launching a programme relating to green jobs that should lead to the creation of 30,000 new jobs over the next three years.
