Bratislava, December 18 (TASR) - The unemployment rate in Slovakia remained unchanged month-on-month in November at 12.4 percent, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (UPSVaR) reported on Friday.
"This situation has confirmed that the situation on the Slovak labour market has begun to stabilise, which is being attested to not only by the statistics from November, but also by the overall development of the registered unemployment rate over the past four months," said UPSVaR general director Jan Sihelsky.
According to Sihelsky, this situation is to be ascribed to the successful anti-crisis measures introduced by the Government, which were aimed at maintaining jobs. It's also job-creation initiatives on the labour market, consultancy services, UPSVaR efforts aimed at preventing and softening the impacts of mass lay-offs, and the EURES – European Employment System, which runs in the 30 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA).
"The positive development is being stressed by the fact that the rate of registered unemployment fell in as many as 49 districts (of 79) in November," said Sihelsky, adding that less than 20,000 people signed on as unemployed at UPSVaR offices last month. This figure is approaching the standards from before the economic crisis, noted Sihelsky.
"On the other hand, there are 25,000 unemployed who, for whatever reason, left the register, which is a sign that the labour market isn't at a standstill and points to relatively significant dynamics," added Sihelsky.
