Bratislava, November 22 (TASR) - Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) assured journalists on Monday that the nomination of Jozef Centes as the joint Coalition candidate for prosecutor-general is a result of an agreement between all Coalition parties (SDKU-DS, SaS, KDH and Most-Hid).
Radicova stressed that there is no need for a written pledge of Coalition lawmakers to vote for Centes in the secret ballot at the parliamentary session slated for next week.
When asked which party has nominated Centes, Radicova said that it was the governing Coalition. "Really. The names that have been cited for this round of the vote, were experts, they weren't political nominees," said Radicova, adding that Centes is also an expert.
KDH whip Pavol Hrusovsky added that the long discussion, including an interruption of talks on Monday, demonstrate that the debate was difficult. "I'm convinced that this proposal is a good compromise," he stated.
Centes has been a prosecutor since 1992. He worked at the District Prosecutor's Office in Bratislava, as a banking expert at Istrobanka and prosecutor of the Prosecutor General's Office. "He has been involved in many activities and won many awards," said Radicova.
