Bratislava, November 22 (TASR) - The number of employees in state institutions is set to go down by nearly 3 percent next year, with the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry and the Finance Ministry reducing staff levels the most, according to an Economic Policy Institute (IHP) analysis released on Monday.
In line with the Government-approved draft of the public administration budget for 2011, state institutions will employ 128,681 personnel in 2011. This represents a reduction of 3,684 when compared to the budget for 2010.
The Labour Ministry is set to reduce the number of its staff by 1,282, while the Finance Ministry is planning to employ 955 fewer people than is currently the case.
In overall terms, expenditures on state salaries including levies and contributions will amount to €2.07 billion in 2011. This represents a drop of €119.4 million, or approximately 6 percent, when compared to the public administration budget for 2010.
Expenditures were originally supposed to be cut by 10 percent but this proved impossible after several exemptions totalling over €100 million in the Education, Defence and Interior Ministries were approved.
