Bratislava/Brussels, November 18 (TASR) - Slovak diplomacy is close to securing a top post in the European External Action Service (EEAS), TASR learnt on Thursday.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton will announce the nominations for newly-created top diplomatic posts by the end of the month, with former Slovak foreign affairs minister Miroslav Lajcak as a hot candidate for one of these.
Lajcak is set to chair the section for the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe, according to EUOBserver online daily.
TASR has learnt that Lajcak has been in close contact with Ashton in recent days. The two even met in person in Brussels on Tuesday.
According to EUObserver, other top posts should be given to Frenchman Hugues Mingarelli (Africa), Swede Christian Leffler (the Middle East and Mediterranean) and Spaniard Tomas Dupla del Moral (Asia and the Americas).
