Radicova: Residue of Former Times Hasn't Been Altogether Removed

Bratislava, November 17 (TASR) - Even 21 years after the Velvet Revolution, people in Slovakia are unhappy about corruption, clientelism, unequal opportunities and a lack of respect for the law, Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) said at a press conference at the Government Office on Wednesday.

The press conference was attended by Government members and Parliamentary Chairman Richard Sulik (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS).

"Although fundamental historic changes have been made over the 21 years of freedom and democracy – and we live in a state with parliamentary democracy that has quickly managed to integrate into elite European and global political, economic and security structures – people have often the justified feeling that some residue from the former regime still hasn't been eliminated," said Radicova.

Radicova reiterated the commitment of her Government to promote the principles of a state based on the rule of law. "We won't allow Slovakia to resemble an isolated island fenced with barbed wire," said Radicova.
