Kosice, November 16 (TASR) - The Environment Ministry, in co-operation with the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre, Association of Slovak Towns and Villages (ZMOS) and Slovak Water Management Company (SVP), will create 1,000 jobs in eastern Slovakia to clean rivers affected by the floods earlier this year, Environment Minister Jozsef Nagy (Most-Hid) announced on Tuesday.
Nagy was speaking after a meeting with mayors of villages located near Kosice.
According to Nagy, mayors also asked about constructing sewerage system in villages with less than 2,000 inhabitants. "I have to say, unfortunately, that the budget for next year is very tight. The ministry will get only €10 million, while in the past it used to be €50-70 million yearly," said Nagy.
The Government has set aside €44 million for creation of the jobs to tackle the effects of the floods. "Country-wide, we count on creating 15,000 jobs. So I today told the mayors that they shouldn't hesitate in looking for employment opportunities in cooperation with SVP," he said, adding that the contracts would last half a year, with the monthly salary reaching around €330.
