Miskov Highlights Importance of Austrian Investments in Slovakia

Bratislava, November 14 (TASR) - Austria ranks as the third largest investor in Slovakia, Economy Minister Juraj Miskov (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) has said at a recent meeting of the Slovak-Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

"Austria was previously the second largest investor in Slovakia. It remained among the top three in 2009, but dropped to the third spot. A subsequent drop in investments, including from Austria, was obvious," said Miskov in reference to the troubled economic times of late.

"Approximately 1,600 Austrian companies, mostly small and mid-sized, are currently operating in Slovakia, with their capital shares varying" added the minister.

Miskov noted that Austrian investments have mainly been placed in the engineering, electronics, glass-making and shoe-making sectors.

In turn, Slovak investments in Austria are substantially more limited. "We lack a sufficient number of companies with enough capital to expand into foreign markets," said Miskov.
