Bratislava, November 9 (TASR) - An investigation into the murder of lawyer Ernest Valko has been launched by the Police Presidium's Office for the Fight Against Organised Crime, Police Corps President Jaroslav Spisiak said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic asked the public and media to understand that no information that could thwart the investigation will be released. "Our aim is to solve the case and find the perpetrators," said the Interior Minister.
Valko's body was found in his house in Limbach near Bratislava at 10.45 p.m. on Monday [and not on Tuesday morning as earlier thought. - ed. note]. The lawyer hadn't been answering his mobile phone for some time, so his ex-wife and daughter went to his house to investigate, only to find his lifeless body.
According to Spisiak, the lawyer was shot dead on Monday evening at some time between 6.47-10.45 p.m. One bullet, fired from a distance of several metres, hit him in the heart and lung, fatally wounding him. By the time paramedics reached the scene, the lawyer was already dead. The police haven't been able to identify the murder weapon yet.
"We won't speculate now about theories or the motive," said Lipsic, adding that he knew Valko personally, and that the lawyer hadn't shown any signs that he feared for his life recently.
