Prominent Lawyer Ernest Valko Shot Dead

Bratislava, November 9 (TASR) - A well-known Slovak advocate Ernest Valko was killed on Monday night and found shot in his house in Limbach near Bratislava early on Tuesday, TASR had it confirmed by Interior Ministry spokesman Gabor Grendel, without providing any further details as yet.
Valko had a reputation of a prominent lawyer. Over the past few months he was advocating Finance Minister Ivan Miklos in two civil cases. Both had a political tune, and concerned libel actions.
One regarded Miklos being sued by ex-chairman of Parliament Pavol Paska, who won the case. In the other it was Miklos who pressed charges, this time against former premier Robert Fico. Miklos won the case eventually.
Valko was also connected to a case of lands in Zahorie area, with Valko and businessman Ladislav Rehak allegedly blackmailing two land owners. Prosecution authorities discontinued the investigation in the case eventually.
In 1992, Valko was head of the Czech-Slovak Federal Constitutional Court.
