Mikulas Dzurinda Remains SDKU-DS Leader for Next Four Years

Bratislava, November 6 (TASR) - Mikulas Dzurinda will remain leader of currently the strongest coalition party SDKU-DS for another four-year period, the party congress decided in a secret vote in Bratislava on Saturday.

Dzurinda, who's been heading the party for ten years now, faced no rival in the vote, even though one delegate at the congress had proposed current Prime Minister Iveta Radicova to run for the top post in SDKU-DS. However, despite being officially obliged to accept such a proposal in order not to violate the provisions in the party statute, she de facto refused to run against Dzurinda.

In the secret ballot, Dzurinda, former Slovak premier between 1998-2006 and currently Foreign Affairs Minister in Radicova's Cabinet, won the support of majority of 581 congress delegates present at the vote.
